「TOEFLのスコアが足りない」「IELTSが思うように伸びない」そんな理由で留学を諦めようとしていませんか？実はスコアが完璧でなくても留学できる方法があります。今回は、私自身が学費免除を獲得して海外就職までつなげた経験を交えながら、４つの方法と注意点を紹介します。

まず１つ目は語学学校

英語力が不足していてもすぐに留学できるのが魅力です。日本より英語を使う環境に身を置けるため、語学力の伸びは期待できます。ただし、周りは同じように英語ができない人ばかりで、アメリカ人と触れ合う機会は少ない点はデメリット。また、学費免除がないため経済的負担も考慮が必要です。

２つ目は条件付き入学

一定の英語スコアに到達すれば大学や大学院に進める制度で、実際に私も利用しました。現地で学びながら英語を伸ばせるのは大きなメリットですが、書類準備やテスト対策などやるべきことが多く、手続きは大変です。

３つ目はコミュニティカレッジ（コミカレ）

学費が比較的安く、学生生活を送りながら英語を学べます。入学の敷居が低いので、TOEFLが40点程度でも入れることがあります。ただし、授業は英語力が必要な内容が多く、ついていくのは簡単ではありません。

４つ目は４年制大学への直接進学

語学学校やコミカレより環境は厳しいですが、スキル取得や就職を視野に入れるなら最もおすすめです。学費免除の可能性も高く、将来のキャリア形成につながりやすいです。

一方で注意すべきなのが「英語ができなくても入れるMBA」など安易な選択。英語力が不足したまま進学すると、就職につながらず後悔するケースが多いです。留学の目的を明確にし、どんなキャリアを築きたいかを考えることが大切です。
